Reducing government spending to create a universal basic income
A plan to provide freedom and security while shrinking our national debt
Our welfare and entitlement system uses our taxes to create a large government bureaucracy that manages our lives. My first priority is to reduce the size and scope of this bureaucracy by phasing out all of our welfare and entitlement programs. The $4 trillion a year that we spend on these programs should be given back to the people. My proposal would divide up this money equally to create a universal basic income of $16,000 per year for everyone 21 and over. This would constitute the largest tax cut in U.S. history. All our retirees or anyone within 30 years of retirement could choose to keep their existing benefits or switch to the new system.
Setting aside the transition costs for maintaining our commitments to our retirees, under my plan we would save $800 billion per year as compared to our existing system, and we could use this money to balance our budget and reduce our national debt.
Please help me to phase out the existing system that has trapped people in poverty by penalizing them for working and supervising them with a massive government bureaucracy. It is time for us to dissolve this bureaucracy and distribute the proceeds back to all citizens. You can help me by volunteering or donating at davidpanforcongress.com.
